myHub Writing Retreat
��️Wednesday August 12th| ⏱️ 12:00pm - 2:00pm|��TBD
MyHub will host monthly mini Writing Retreats on the second Wednesday of every month. Retreats are open to all School of Medicine and Dentistry Trainees and are inclusive of all types of writing projects.
Each session will begin with a brief guided free writing exercise, followed by goal setting, and protected time to write. MyHub’s Director of Writing Service and Training Grant Development, Dr. Elaine Smolock, will be available for consultation and review during each session.
Food and drinks will be provided.

The Gell Center is located in Bristol, NY, and features a lodge where we can literally retreat into the woods, surrounded by nature, or we can certainly host the retreat here on campus. Your feedback will help us determine which is the best fit for you!

Harmit Malik, Ph.D.
Investigator, Howard Hughes Medical Institute
Professor and Associate Director, Basic Sciences Division, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center
Dr. Harmit Malik studies genetic conflict, the competition between genes and proteins with opposing functions that drives evolutionary change. His research could have implications for a range of diseases, from HIV to cancer. As part of this work, his team developed an approach for identifying genes that divide one species from another, which could help solve the riddle of how new species evolve. Dr. Malik also studies the evolutionary processes that drive our body’s interactions with viruses, including contemporary scourges like HIV as well as ancient viruses whose fossils litter our genome. With Hutch colleagues, he has characterized the rapidly evolving interface between proteins on human cells and viruses that make us sick. | America's Got Regulatory Science Talent |
Enter the America's Got Regulatory Science Talent Student Competition by Nov. 4
In this competition, teams of students develop and present a proposed solution to a current FDA regulatory science need [www.fda.gov/science-research/science-and-research-special-topics/advancing-regulatory-science]. Solutions will focus on the science of developing new tools, standards, and approaches to assess the safety, efficacy, quality, and performance of FDA-regulated products. Entry form due by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Competition is at noon on Wednesday, December 2, 2026 at the Helen Wood Hall auditorium (1W-304). Co-sponsored by CTSI, the Center for Medical Technology & Innovation, and the University of Maryland Center of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation.

| Summer Wellness and Connection |
Wellness on Demand Vending Machine
Our “Wellness on Demand” vending machine is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to students, and all items are free of charge in the UHS foyer. The machine is stocked every week day as needed, but please keep in mind that we do not stock over the weekend, so some supplies may be missing at this time. In order to ensure that all students are able to get what they need, please only take what you need at the time. With any questions about the vending machine, please email Zoe Black.
Food Pantry
Open Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays during the summer from 3-6 PM. Individuals can browse and choose non-perishable items during the Pantry’s operation hours in 105 Wilson Commons, or pre-order a bag for pick up.
Safe Sex Express
The Safe Sex Express is a program that delivers safer sex supplies and information to Rochester students’ CMC boxes. The program was created by students on the UR Student Health Advisory Committee (URSHAC) in the spring of 2015. The Safe Sex Express makes around 100 deliveries each month throughout the academic year!

| Postdoctoral Opportunity in Mechanobiology at Purdue University |
Purdue University is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering to work on our recently funded R35 grant on the intersection of hyaluronan science and biomechanics/mechanobiology. Research directions include the role of the hyaluronan “mechanics-matrix” feedback loop at multiple length scales, how to manipulate hyaluronan metabolism for therapeutic applications, and how systemic physical activity like exercise impacts local repair/regenerative capacity. This research requires excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, as the successful candidate would be required to interact with project sponsors and researchers of myriad technical and personal backgrounds.
