This event is in collaboration with SAS & Hajim GEPA
Graduate students and postdoctoral trainees develop a wide range of valuable skills that extend far beyond the traditional academic research path. This interactive workshop will introduce participants to a variety of career tracks available to learners including industry research and development, data science, government and public health, science communication, regulatory affairs, nonprofit leadership, and research administration. Participants will explore common roles, key skills, and work environments across these sectors while learning how to translate their research experience into transferable strengths. The session will also highlight how LinkedIn can be used to explore career paths, identify professionals in different sectors, and begin building a personalized strategy for career exploration. This session will include a brief overview of key concepts, small group activities, and dedicated time for individual exploration and one-on-one assistance!

myHub will host a Fall Writing Retreat and would like your input!
One option we are considering is utilizing the Gell Center in conjunction with Writers & Books.
The Gell Center is located in Bristol, NY, and features a lodge where we can literally retreat into the woods, surrounded by nature, or we can certainly host the retreat here on campus. Your feedback will help us determine which is the best fit for you!
Our goal is to provide a meaningful and unique experience to help you navigate those pesky - yet very important - writing projects!
| 2026 PDA Career Enhancement Awards (Deadline Extended) |
The Postdoctoral Association (PDA) Executive Committee would like to announce the call for applications for the 2026 PDA Career Enhancement Award!
The Career Enhancement Award was created as part of the PDA’s mission to support the professional development of postdoctoral researchers at the University of Rochester. Eligible proposals may include request for funds to travel to a conference, workshop, or training; support independent research; cover the cost of software packages/programs not available at University of Rochester; support fees or tuition for a class taken by a postdoc; or support other personal professional development endeavors. Priority will be given to individuals who can clearly demonstrate how they will use the requested funds to enhance their career development or pursue opportunities for professional development that are currently unavailable at the University of Rochester or not financially supported by their mentor.
Depending on the number of applicants and available funds, up to 3 SAS/Hajim postdocs and 3 SMD postdocs will be selected to receive an award up to $500 to be used before June 2027. Candidates must submit a short, written proposal including an itemized budget as well as their CV. Please see the attached PDF for award details, application requirements, and the link to the online application form. All application documents must be submitted using the online application by Friday, July 31st to be considered for the award. The winners of the award will be announced in September.

Wellness on Demand Vending Machine
Our “Wellness on Demand” vending machine is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to students, and all items are free of charge in the UHS foyer. The machine is stocked every week day as needed, but please keep in mind that we do not stock over the weekend, so some supplies may be missing at this time. In order to ensure that all students are able to get what they need, please only take what you need at the time. With any questions about the vending machine, please email Zoe Black.
Food Pantry
Open Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays during the summer from 3-6 PM. Individuals can browse and choose non-perishable items during the Pantry’s operation hours in 105 Wilson Commons, or pre-order a bag for pick up.
Safe Sex Express
The Safe Sex Express is a program that delivers safer sex supplies and information to Rochester students’ CMC boxes. The program was created by students on the UR Student Health Advisory Committee (URSHAC) in the spring of 2015. The Safe Sex Express makes around 100 deliveries each month throughout the academic year!

| Postdoctoral Opportunity in Mechanobiology at Purdue University |
Purdue University is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering to work on our recently funded R35 grant on the intersection of hyaluronan science and biomechanics/mechanobiology. Research directions include the role of the hyaluronan “mechanics-matrix” feedback loop at multiple length scales, how to manipulate hyaluronan metabolism for therapeutic applications, and how systemic physical activity like exercise impacts local repair/regenerative capacity. This research requires excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills, as the successful candidate would be required to interact with project sponsors and researchers of myriad technical and personal backgrounds.

This week’s social media spotlight features Gayathri Guru Murthy, a Translational Biomedical Science PhD Candidate, on being awarded the prestigious American Heart Association (AHA) Predoctoral Fellowship! This outstanding achievement recognizes her dedication to advancing biomedical research and supports her continued doctoral training at the University of Rochester.
In her LinkedIn post, Gayathri shared that the fellowship is "much more than research funding" and represents the incredible support, mentorship, and opportunities that have shaped her journey as an international student and aspiring scientist. The fellowship will support her dissertation research on systemic sclerosis-associated pulmonary hypertension, helping advance the understanding of rare autoimmune diseases.
Congratulations on this well-deserved honor! Way to go, Gayathri! ��
