myHub Summer Career Ready Boot Camp First Session

Take charge of your professional future with our interactive program designed to guide you through every step of career exploration and development. Whether you're a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow, this experience-based program will empower you with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to take the next big leap in your career. This will include asynchronous, group, and individual appointments. At the end of the session, students will receive a certificate of completion, a digital badge for LinkedIn, and access to career exploration funding.

myHub Writing Retreats

��️Wednesday, June 10th | ⏱️ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm |�� TBD

MyHub will host monthly mini Writing Retreats on the second Wednesday of every month. Retreats are open to all School of Medicine and Dentistry Trainees and are inclusive of all types of writing projects. 

Each session will begin with a brief guided free writing exercise, followed by goal setting, and protected time to write. MyHub’s Director of Writing Service and Training Grant Development, Dr. Elaine Smolock, will be available for consultation and review during each session. 

Food and drinks will be provided.

Designing Effective Assessment: Backward Design in Action

Explore what makes assessment meaningful and effective within a course. This session will introduce backward design principles and connect them to curriculum development, scaffolding your learning goals, activities, and assessments for greater student success.

Unlock Your Family Story

Begin your genealogy journey by learning the essential foundations of family history/genealogy research. Participants will explore how to ask effective research questions, use pedigree charts and family group sheets, and build a strong starting point for discovering their family story. This interactive session is perfect for beginners and those looking to refresh their research skills.

Mental Health First Aid Training for SMD Faculty, Staff, and Trainees! (Full Day OR Morning Sessions)

Become certified in Mental Health First Aid through this 7.5 hour in-person training course. Certification is through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing and is active for 3 years. 

At a research institution where the demands on PhD students, postdoctoral associates, faculty, and staff are high, mental health literacy is impactful. It helps us become better prepared to support colleagues and trainees, contributes to healthier work environments, and reduces stigma around mental health.

Mental Health First Aid is a training that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance abuse challenges. You'll learn:
✅ Common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges
✅ How to interact with a person in crisis
✅ How to connect a person with help
✅ More about trauma, substance use and self-care

Social Media Spotlight

This week’s social media spotlight features Azmeer Sharipolfor his leadership in advancing sustainability efforts at the University of Rochester. Recently, Azmeer helped train 40 new lab sustainability leaders through a program that combined resources from the Office of Sustainability, Sustainable Labs Initiative ROC, and the My Green Lab Ambassador Program.

Reflecting on the experience, Azmeer shared, "I am so happy with the support that has been given so far from various offices and the research community to drive our efforts." He also expressed excitement for the future, stating, "I am looking forward to the growth of sustainability efforts at the University with these new sustainability leaders!" Amazing work Azmeer!
