International Education Week 2024
International Education Week is a nationwide celebration organized each year to promote exploring connections and mutual understanding between all students in the U.S. and around the world. The University of Rochester will be hosting multiple events across all campuses aimed to celebrate the benefits of international education highlight intercultural awareness and support the integration of our domestic and international student bodies. Jeff Wyatt on Bridging the Gap between Human and Animal Health
The Professor of Comparative Medicine and University Veterinarian is featured on the latest episode of The Next Step podcast. Wyatt, the first veterinarian to complete SMD’s Masters of Public Health program in 1995, recounts how this unique path allowed him to weave human, animal, and environmental health into a cohesive practice. Open Scholarship Awards for Ph.D. Students - 2nd Information Session

The Open Scholarship Awards aim to celebrate PhD students at the University of Rochester who have demonstrated exemplary efforts in making their research open and accessible to the wider community. Join us for an online information session where you can learn more about the award and see concrete examples of the type of research materials that you can list in your submission. Faculty members will share their own experience publishing openly, while librarians will provide recommendations on available platforms and tools for different disciplines. Community-Based Participatory Research Day

Community-Based Participatory Research Day celebrates and fosters partnerships between URMC researchers and community members that produce impactful research. Join UR CTSI on December 3 in Helen Wood Hall for networking opportunities, presentations, and workshops that will equip and inspire you to begin or continue your journey into community-based participatory research. The event will feature breakout sessions and talks facilitated by experts in the field. The keynote speaker will be Hillary Edwards, PhD, MPH, director of research with the PATIENTS Program in the Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.

The Pogue Distinguished Chair in Research on Cardiac Birth Defects at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas will present "Muscle Making and Muscle Breaking: From Developmental Mechanisms to New Therapies for Muscle and Heart Disease." A welcome and introduction will be given by David Linehan, URMC CEO and SMD dean, and Eric Small, professor in the Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute. 3:30 to 5:30 pm, Class of '62 Auditorium (G-9425) followed by a reception in the Flaum atrium.
Wilmot Predoctoral Fellowship Program
The program provides support for cancer research training for emerging scientists, with the goal of enabling them to build an independent career in the investigation of the causes, diagnosis, treatment, prevention or management of cancer or its side effects. Wilmot predoctoral fellowships, open to PhD or MD/PhD students under the mentorship of a Wilmot Cancer Institute member, provide two years of support.
LGBTQ Life Team
The LGBTQ Life Team is a resource for all things LGBTQ in all of our UR schools and their Fall 2024 Office Hours at the School of Medicine and Dentistry are every Monday, 12:00-1:00pm in G.7648.
Opioid Overdose Prevention Training

Join Strong Recovery for opioid overdose prevention training on November 21st at 12pm in the Gowen Room. All attendees (over age 18) will receive a free Narcan kit. The early career bench and physician-scientists in Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Transdisciplinary Research Programs are committed to nurturing the next generation of diverse and multidisciplinary cancer investigators. Several of these faculty have joined the Excellence in Career Enrichment Leadership (ExCEL) Committee, which, among other efforts, runs an annual award competition and symposium for senior postdoctoral investigators. The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs at Washington University in St. Louis is excited to host Pathways to Advanced Scientific Skills through Postdoctoral Research Training (PASSPoRT) on December 10, 2024. PASSPoRT to WashU is a virtual event that offers prospective postdocs an opportunity to learn about WashU and receive some professional development along the way. The event is open to advanced doctoral students (post-qualifying exams), recent doctoral graduates, and early-stage postdocs. There is no citizenship requirement to participate.
Fellowship in Suicide Prevention
The Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center is accepting applications for its T32 postdoctoral fellowship in suicide prevention. Now in its 25th year, the UR/CSPS postdoctoral training program is supported by an institutional National Research Service Award training grant from NIMH (Kim Van Orden, PhD, Yeates Conwell, MD & Todd Bishop, PhD, Directors). It provides two years of stipend support and related benefits for early career investigators committed to careers in suicide prevention research. Each fellow works closely with a mentoring team, takes courses and participates in a diverse array of CSPS research and training activities. A strength of the UR/CSPS fellowship is the provision of intensive mentorship in grant writing, study design, and data analysis from UR/CSPS core faculty dedicated to suicide prevention. Applications are due by December 2, 2024.

SHIFT Program 2025
The application cycle for the Short Course in Transferable Skills Training (SHIFT) Program is now open. This program is available to PhD students in biomedical research programs across the US, with all costs covered by an NIGMS R25 grant. The application deadline is January 31st, 2025.
