Election Stress Free Zone
Monday, November 4 | 3-6:30pm | Welles-Brown Room
Experience stress reduction and ease during election week. On November 4th from 3-6:30 pm in the Welles-Browm Room every half hour, multiple mindfulness sessions will be provided to students along with FREE tea and snacks. In addition, sensory-accessible and mindfulness-based supplies (zen garden, coloring pages, cushions and bean bags) are provided on the shelves during October 28th - November 5th 8:00 am to 5pm in the Welles-Brown Room for students as an Election Stress Free Zone, dedicated to ease stress and foster mindful well-being. Help yourself and use what you need!

12th Annual America’s Got Regulatory Science Talent Student Competition
Applications are due by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
The twelfth annual America’s Got Regulatory Science Talent student competition, scheduled for Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 12:00 pm is now accepting applications.
Organized by the UR CTSI, the competition aims to promote student interest in regulatory science and the winning team may present their ideas to the FDA.
Students matriculated at the University are welcome to submit a 50-word entry and provide a five-minute presentation during the competition.
The proposed solution should align with the FDA Focus Areas of Regulatory Science. Visit the UR CTSI website to learn more.

The Body Project

Join us for The Body Project, a free, 4-week evidence-based body acceptance program aimed at helping women challenge unrealistic appearance ideals. Through engaging group discussions and interactive activities, participants will gain valuable insights into developing a healthier body image and self-esteem. Open to all undergraduate and graduate women, this program has proven effective in reducing body dissatisfaction and promoting body positivity, with non-binary students also welcome, though the focus is on femme-presenting societal ideals. Sessions will be held in the UHS 2nd Floor Reifler Room on November 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th from 4-5 PM. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and grow! Step into the oasis of compassion and strength with the Mindful University Project’s Calming U class! Our October and November Calming U offerings are here. The 4-week course, tailored to U of R students, is dedicated to heightening your self-awareness, emotional resilience through guided meditation, introspective exercises and meaningful discussions. The first class was Friday, November 1st, and continue for 3 more weeks on November 8, November 15, and November 22 at 7:15 PM in Genesee 309. Register today to save your spot! Meditative Guide for Us

Land on your inner peace and resilience with Our Meditative Guide for Us, a class designed specifically for the Black community at U of R. Led by our experienced instructor Deontae McLachlan, this experience draws from personal insights to help participants manage racial stress, cultivate self-care, and enhance inner strength. Through deep breathing, visualization, and guided meditation, you’ll gain tools to reduce anxiety, improve focus, and enhance creativity. This class is open to Black-identifying students, staff, faculty, and allies. Register below for the session that begins on Saturday, November 9, via Zoom from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
Students who fully attend the session series will receive their choice of a meditation cushion or yoga mat, or choice of books Stay Woke: A Meditation Guide for the Rest of Us or For Indigenous Minds Only: A Decolonization Handbook.
Yoga Classes
Maintain your physical and spiritual health as the temperature drops by taking a moment to breathe and stretch on the mat with us. Yoga classes continue everyday throughout the fall semester in the Leibner-Cooper Room at the Goergen Athletic Center. Research Scientist I with the NYS Department of Health/Health Research
The Research Scientist I will join a team of public health professionals conducting environmental health surveillance and research. The incumbent will work closely with other programs within the New York State Department of Health, as well as other state and federal agencies, local health departments, community organizations and academic partners, conducting epidemiologic surveillance and research and assisting with preparing progress reports, as well as other reports and publications. Public Health Specialist II with the NYS Department of Health/Health Research
The Public Health Specialist II will work with hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices to obtain medical records for potential cases of birth defects and stillbirth. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a caseload tracking system, screening identified cases for eligibility in special studies, abstracting the required data into the data collection tool, and perform other appropriate related duties. MECCC ExCEL Scholar Award Competition
The early career bench and physician-scientists in Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Transdisciplinary Research Programs are committed to nurturing the next generation of diverse and multidisciplinary cancer investigators. Several of these faculty have joined the Excellence in Career Enrichment Leadership (ExCEL) Committee, which, among other efforts, runs an annual award competition and symposium for senior postdoctoral investigators. Fellowship in Suicide Prevention
The Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center is accepting applications for its T32 postdoctoral fellowship in suicide prevention. Now in its 25th year, the UR/CSPS postdoctoral training program is supported by an institutional National Research Service Award training grant from NIMH (Kim Van Orden, PhD, Yeates Conwell, MD & Todd Bishop, PhD, Directors). It provides two years of stipend support and related benefits for early career investigators committed to careers in suicide prevention research. Each fellow works closely with a mentoring team, takes courses and participates in a diverse array of CSPS research and training activities. A strength of the UR/CSPS fellowship is the provision of intensive mentorship in grant writing, study design, and data analysis from UR/CSPS core faculty dedicated to suicide prevention.

NSF I-Corps Regional Courses are for university-based STEM researchers and early-stage startup founders who are interested in exploring the market potential of their work and learning entrepreneurial skills. Participants learn to apply “customer discovery” methodology to evaluate the potential for translating their technology innovation from the lab into a successful product and/or service.
