Qualifying Exam Preparation Writing Workshop Part II

Thursday, June 20, 2024 @ 12:00 pm-1:00 pm | SRB 3434A/3434B

Elaine Smolock, Director of Writing Services and Grant Development in myHub will present fundamental information about how to prepare and plan to write a Qualifying Exam. This two part writing workshop will cover hypothesis development, crafting a specific aims page, and how to build your research strategy. 

  • Building the experimental approach
  • Discuss how to format aims: Rationale, Prelim Data, and Experimental Approach
  • Focus on expected outcomes and how to demonstrate critical thinking skills

myHub Evidence-Based Teaching Retreat

Tuesday August 6th & Wednesday, August 7th  

Are you interested in teaching? Do you want to further develop your skills and gain knowledge to prepare for your future career?

myHub is hosting a two-day teaching retreat in August for SMD trainees. This retreat is designed for those interested in gaining more knowledge, tools, and resources for a career in teaching. The focus will be on evidence-based teaching practices aimed at:

  • Enhancing teaching skills

  • Fostering inclusive classrooms

  • Building a community of educators dedicated to student-centered learning

The event will include interactive sessions, group activities, and expert panel discussions.

Tuesday, August 6th- Day 1 Schedule: 8:30 am-4:00 pm

Wednesday, August 7th- Day 2 Schedule: 9:00 am-5:00 pm

Celebration & Networking Dinner on Day 2 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm

7th Annual Presentation Skills Workshop

Friday, July 19, 2024 | 1:00 pm-4:00 pm | Combined Northeastern Room (1-9525 & 1-9535)

Presented by Dr. Alan Grossfield; Associate Professor; Biochemistry and Biophysics

Attendees will learn principles for designing effective scientific talks, with particular emphasis on clear visual communication. The content is aimed primarily at students, but postdocs, fellows, techs, faculty, and staff members are also welcome. All attendees should be prepared to share a set of slides from a scientific talk, since a portion of the workshop will involve small-group discussion of others’ presentations. 

Space is limited, so please reserve your spot today. 

Light refreshments will be served.
