The One-Page PhD Public Policy Pitch Competition is designed to empower the next generation of researchers to effectively communicate the public policy implications of their research, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation at the intersection of academia and public policy.
This competition is brought to you by the University Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs Office in collaboration with the Office of Government and Community Relations.

Contest overview
By encouraging the translation of academic research into actionable and understandable policy recommendations, the competition aims to help student researchers develop and succinctly communicate evidence-based policies that address real world challenges… using just one page.
Students will submit a written one-page abstract outlining the policy implications of their research aimed at a non-specialist audience. A panel of reviewers will evaluate the submissions based on clarity, relevance, and potential impact on public policy.

Eligibility
Open to all current Ph.D. and Professional Doctorate (Research) candidates who have passed their qualifying exam or are in their third year of study or greater, as well as postdoctoral appointees.
Rules and judging criteria
- Submission must be no more than one page in written format in 12-point font. Please utilize 1.15 line spacing and 1.25 margins.
- Text only – no images or graphics.
- Will be judged on clarity of message, relevance to current public policy matters, feasibility and implementation potential, and engagement of a non-specialist demographic.

- First Place Winner: $750
- Runner Up: $500
