Henrietta, N.Y. — The University of Rochester Medical Center's Wilmot Cancer Institute hosted its first-ever Wilmot Breakaway Bike Ride Saturday morning as part of its Wilmot Warrior Weekend.

About 300 cyclists registered for the event, which offered a 25-mile, 50-mile, and 75-mile route.

Ruth O'Regan, associate director for Education and Mentoring at the Wilmot Cancer Institute, was appreciative of the event's benefits for patients.

"It means everything, anything we can do to help our patients," said O'Regan. "We've made huge advancements in treating cancer and preventing cancer. We have a lot more work to do."

People raised over $285,000 for the cancer institute before the Warrior Weekend started.
