Yellowjackets Get Three All-UAA Players In Men's Soccer

A trio of Yellowjackets from the University of Rochester men's soccer team were honored on Monday as members of the 2022 University Athletic Association All-Association team.
 
First-year defender Kol Bassuk and junior goalkeeper Santino Lupica-Tondo earned All-UAA Second Team honors, while junior midfielder Nick Swanger was awarded All-UAA Honorable Mention status.
 
Both Lupica-Tondo and Swanger are now two-time All-UAA recipients. Swanger earned Second Team accolades in 2021, while Lupica-Tondo was Honorable Mention. Bassuk's first award comes after his rookie season with the Yellowjackets.
 
In 2022, Rochester's men finished with a 6-5-5 overall record, tallying six total points in UAA play with a 1-3-3 record. Each of UR's three all-conference representatives were key in several strong results during the campaign.
 
Kol Bassuk2nd Team:
Kol Bassuk (FY, D, San Francisco, CA/Urban School) – 1st All-UAA honor; Bassuk was a starter in 15 games for the Yellowjackets, being a steady presence along the back line for Rochester's defensive unit. The 15 starts were tied for most among field players and ranked second on the Yellowjackets. He also chipped in offensively with two goals and two assists for six points, ranking second on the team in scoring this season. UR's defense combined to allow one goal or less in 13 of 16 games this season and have six clean sheets. The Yellowjackets ended up in the top-60 in NCAA Division III in goals against average, sitting at 0.875 throughout the season. Bassuk's goals came against RIT and Alvernia, while he assisted in contests against conference foes NYU and Case Western Reserve.
 
Santino Lupica-TondoSantino Lupica-Tondo (JR, GK, Weston, FL/Cypress Bay) – 2nd All-UAA honor (2021 H.M.); Lupica-Tondo was the lone Yellowjacket to start all 16 games in 2022, playing every minute in goal for the Yellowjackets. The junior was again terrific between the pipes, finishing with a 6-5-5 record across 1,440 minutes played. He allowed just 14 goals (0.88 GAA) and made 51 saves for a .785 save percentage. He added six clean sheets and ranked top-3 in the UAA in goals against, GAA, shutouts and minutes. Within UAA conference games, he led the conference with a .824 save percentage. Across Division III, Lupica-Tondo was highly ranked in shutouts (54th), goals against average (66th), save percentage (109th) and goalie minutes (111th). One of the juniors best games of the campaign came in the season-opener against #10 SUNY Cortland, where he made seven saves in UR's 3-1 upset victory. He added six saves against NCAA-tournament bound NYU, helping the 'Jackets to a 1-1 draw at home in mid-October.
 
Nick SwangerHonorable Mention:
Nick Swanger (JR, M, Fairport, NY/Penfield) – 2nd All-UAA honor (2021 2nd Team); Swanger battled through injuries in 2022, but was one of the teams top playmakers in the midfield, being a key component both offensively and defensively for the Yellowjackets. He appeared in 10 games, making nine starts and finished with three points, scoring one goal and adding one assists. He chipped in six shot attempts, three of which ended on goal in 2022. Both of his scoring plays came in UAA contests, as he scored Rochester's lone goal in a 2-1 road loss at Case Western Reserve on October 28 and picked up an assist in a 1-1 draw at Emory to close the season on November 5. The junior finished with 738 minutes played, averaging over 70 minutes of playing time per contest. He logged all 90 minutes on three occasions, coming against UAA foes NYU, CWRU and Emory.
