Six University of Rochester women's soccer student-athletes: Senior Sam Hawkins, juniors Claire Grover, Sarah Martin and Mia McGinty and sophomores Emma Cohen and Natalie Kocsis, earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Honors, as announced by CSC on Tuesday.

The 2022 CSC Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average at his or her current institution.

A business major with a minor in psychology, Cohen started every game for the Yellowjackets, tallying one assist and six shots in 1,253 minutes while serving as a key member of UR's defensive unit that posted eight shutouts. Cohen also earned UAA Athlete of the Week honors for her defensive efforts the week of Aug. 29 – Sept. 5, helping UR post a shutout win against No. 25 SUNY Cortland.

For her work in the classroom, Cohen earned 2022 Fall UAA All-Academic honors and was also a member of the Dean's List in 2021. While off the field, Cohen interned with Gorilla Glue as a finance and accounting intern this past summer and has volunteered with the Rochester City Soccer League as well as with the Stray Animal Adoption Program and the Bethany House, a shelter for women and children, back home in Cincinnati, OH.

A First-Team All-UAA Selection, Grover led the 'Jackets and UAA offensively with 13 goals and two assists for a total of 28 points on 41 shots, tallying four-game winners against Brockport, Alfred, Keuka, and Houghton. The junior also set a program record with five goals and 11 points against SUNY Brockport on Sept. 7, earning both UAA Athlete of the Week and United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Player of the Week honors for her efforts.

A mechanical engineering major, Grover is also a two-time UAA All-Academic honoree, as well as a three-time Dean's List recipient. Off the pitch, Grover is the chief engineer of Solar Splash, an intercollegiate national competition where each team is responsible for building a solar-powered boat that competes in an endurance, sprint, and slalom race. Grover also interned at the Herreshoff Marine Museum in 2020 and was a TA for ME 120 last spring.

Hawkins started every game on the Yellowjackets' back-line this season, adding two assists on six shots in 1,163 minutes of action en route to Second-Team All-UAA honors. A three-time UAA All-Academic selection, Hawkins is also a member of the Dean's List and has done research in the Presgraves Lab for Dr. Daven Presgraves, receiving the Discover Research Grant in the summer of 2022.

In addition to her research, Hawkins, a biochemistry major, was a workshop leader for Organic Chemistry II last spring, something she plans to continue this year. Outside of UR, the North Attleboro, MA native also serves as a volunteer soccer coach for Rochester City Soccer League during the offseason.

Kocsis saw action in all 16 games for the Yellowjackets, notching four goals and three assists on eight total shots, scoring the game-winner in UR's 1-0 win over Brandeis on Oct. 14. A computer science major, Kocsis earned 2022 UAA Fall All-Academic honors after earning All-UAA Honorable Mention honors her first year at Rochester.

Outside of soccer, Kocsis lives on the computer-interest floor, is a member of the video game development club and plans on getting involved in Girls Who Code this spring. The White Lake, MI native has also volunteered with the Rochester City Soccer League as well as the Helping Hands food pantry back home.

A health, behavior and society major with a double minor in biological sciences and ethics, Martin saw action in all 16 games this season, making four starts and scoring two goals and two assists on 25 shots. A two-time Academic All-UAA selection, Martin was a recipient of the Wilder Leadership Scholarship as well as the Rensselaer Medal Award.

Off the field, Martin is heavily involved both on-and-off campus, serving as the vice president of Doctors without Borders, working as an academic and social tutor for TOUR, an on-campus organization that offers a transition opportunity for individuals with developmental disabilities and doing research with both the Cognitive Development lab for Professor Karl Rosengren and the Pediatric Asthma Lab at Strong Memorial Hospital. Off-campus, Martin volunteers with the Rochester City Soccer League and local hospices and was an emergency response (ambulance) volunteer in Syracuse, NY.

A two-time UAA All-Academic selection, McGinty appeared in 16 games making 11 starts, tallying five assists and 12 for Rochester this season. An accounting/finance major, McGinty received the Dean's Scholarship, recognizing both academic achievement and unique contributions to the University of Rochester community, as well as the O'Brien Book Award, recognizing scholarly achievement, leadership potential, humanistic values, and co-curricular activity.

Outside her sport, McGinty belongs to Forte Campus, an interest group tied to connecting women in business across the country to help find successful business careers and opportunities, interned with Morgan Stanley as a wealth management intern this past summer, and volunteers with the Rochester City Soccer League, the St. Sebastian Society and the Newman Catholic Community in Rochester, NY and the Part of The Solution soup kitchen in the Bronx, NY back home.
