Pilot Research Awards Program Expands to Support Team Science
|
|
DOM's Pilot Research Awards program is expanding its 2026-27 awards to include cross-divisional research among scientists of all career stages. The goal is to offer a collaborative-project mechanism designed to foster team science, generate preliminary data, and position investigators for larger multi-investigator extramural grants. Up to four proposals will receive funding of up to $30,000 for individual proposals, or up to $60,000 for multidisciplinary collaborative projects. More details.

An innovative team of pancreatic cancer researchers has begun a new multi-investigator project funded by a $3 million National Cancer Institute grant. The effort unifies separate discoveries from the Wilmot Cancer Institute on how tumors hide from the immune system and spread, aided by a cell’s 24-hour “sleep-wake” cycle. Read more.

Registration is open for the Infectious Disease and Immunity Symposium on November 2. The emphasis is on research at the intersection of infection, immunity, and human diseases. Sessions include Transplant Immunology and Infection; Neuroscience and Infectious Disease; and Microbes, Environment, Infection and Immunity. Submission deadline extended for Research in Health Equity Symposium: Proposals for oral presentations, posters, and workshops during the 2027 symposium are due October 15. The Office of Engagement and Wellbeing event, set for February 4-5, focuses on healing communities.

RFA: CTSI Pilot Studies Program in Translational Science: This program funds pilot projects in translational science through multiple awards that address fundamental challenges and barriers common to translational science research, which generates scientific and operational innovations to overcome longstanding challenges in the translational research pipeline. CTSI will fund projects that focus on generalizability, dissemination, and implementation of solutions, making research faster, more efficient, and more impactful. Nominate Faculty for Academic Mentoring Excellence: Awards are given in three categories: junior faculty, basic science research, and clinical care and research (residents, fellows, and clinical trainees). Nominations are due October 26 and awardees will be honored at the April 19 Faculty Recognition Celebration.
