Rebeca Monk Named Interim Chair of DOM

Congratulations to Rebeca Monk, MD, who will begin the role on Sept. 1, as Ruth O’Regan, MD, assumes the position of Executive Vice Dean and Chief Academic Officer for SMD. “Over nearly four decades at URochester Medicine, Dr. Monk has demonstrated unwavering commitment to clinical excellence, team-based care, and academic mentorship,” said David Linehan, MD, CEO of the University of Rochester Medical Center and Dean of SMD. “As we conduct a national search for a permanent chair, I am confident she will ensure continuity, collaboration, and strategic momentum across the Department of Medicine.”

- Respond to NIH Proposal to Cap Number of Grants Held by Scientists: The Office of the Vice President for Research is formulating an institutional response to the NIH Request for Information seeking feedback on a proposal to establish a limit on the number of simultaneous NIH research project grants that may be held by a single principal investigator. NIH-funded investigators are invited to send any comments, concerns, or feedback to the Office of the Vice President for Research by Friday, July 24, 2026.

- Alexandra Yamshchikov, MD, of Infectious Diseases, led the study “A Multifaceted Antimicrobial Stewardship Intervention to Improve Antibiotic Utilization and Prescribing for Sinusitis in a Large Primary Care Network,” published in Antimicrobial Stewardship & Healthcare Epidemiology.
- Ashley Jenkins, MD, MSc, of Hospital Medicine, led the study “Using Implementation Science to Understand the Pediatric to Adult Healthcare Transition,” published in Medical Clinics of North America.
- Andrew Lea, MD, DPhil, of Hospital Medicine, is first author of “The Sieve of Asclepius: A History of Navigating the Medical Literature, From Index to Algorithm,” published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
- Laura Stamm, PhD, of General Medicine, was first author on two studies: “The Impact of Politicization on Adolescent Medicine Care: A Rapid Review,” published with Ahona Shirin, in Current Pediatrics Reports; and “Building Capacity in Translational Research Ethics Among Early-Stage Investigators: A Pilot Course on the Ethics of the Clinician-Researcher Dual-Role,” published in Journal of Clinical and Translational Science. Mical Raz, MD, PhD, of Hospital Medicine, and Ahona Shirin are co-authors.
