Letter from the Chair

As you all have hopefully seen by now, our institution has a refreshed brand that better reflects our “One Team, One Purpose” strategic vision. As a truly integrated academic health system, our research, education, and clinical care missions are united under a single name: University of Rochester Medicine.

The new brand aligns with our department’s strategic intent, which is built on the same ideals of integrating and unifying our missions. Bringing everything under a single identity reflects our commitment to working together toward a common goal.

The names and logos for UR Medicine and URMC are replaced with University of Rochester Medicine. Our hospitals, schools, institutes, and programs will continue to have their own distinct identities under the University of Rochester Medicine brand.

The new brand will roll out over four years to help minimize costs. If you have printed materials with the previous brand names and logos, please do not discard them. Use them up and order the new branded materials when the time comes. In the meantime, encourage you to explore the Brand Center to use our new templates for email signatures, posters, presentations, flyers, etc., whenever possible.

While we manage this change, our mission remains the same: to improve the health of people in our region and around the world through the highest quality patient care, education, and research.

DOM Sets the Pace at Heart Rhythm Society Meeting

Cardiology’s national leadership was on display last weekend at the annual Heart Rhythm Society conference in Chicago. Eleven DOM faculty members and trainees presented research on cardiac devices and potential antiarrhythmic medications.

Collaboration has been a priority for our kidney transplant team, which marks its 60th anniversary this year. Jeremy Taylor, MD, medical director, is excited about the future of xenotransplantation, 3-D printing of organs, and advances in therapeutics.



		Bulletin Board

DOM Faculty Development Session: Join us on Zoom at noon on Wednesday, May 6, to learn about performance improvement and remediation in medical education from Catherine Moore, MD, of Nephrology.

Geriatric Medicine Community-Wide Grand Rounds: Join us at 8 a.m. Wednesdays, May 6 and 13, to learn about poisoning and medication risks in the elderly, and suicide in later life, respectively.

Strategic Use of TriNetX: A panel of TriNetX experts will explore the strategic advantages of using the tool for grant proposals and publications and will provide pro tips on how to effectively use the platform at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 20.

GI and Liver Update Program: This interdisciplinary, full-day program on Saturday, May 30, highlights emerging advances in gastroenterology and hepatology. Through expert-led sessions and panel discussions, participants will gain practical insights to enhance clinical decision-making and patient outcomes.

Help Shape DOM Community-Engaged Research: Our Office of Engagement, Enrichment, and Well-Being has launched a survey to better understand perceptions of community-engaged research and assess institutional readiness to support it. The brief survey is open to all DOM faculty, residents, APPs, and trainees, whether or not they conduct research.

New Citrix MyApps Portal Login: Do you use Citrix MyApps to access URochester networks or applications externally? A new login process took effect on April 29, moving to the University's standard authentication method and enhancing our system's security.



		Off the Clock

Shaul Gelikas, MD, MBA, of the Clinical Cardiovascular Research Center, turned his trip to the annual Heart Rhythm Society meeting into a mini-family vacation. Between sessions and two poster presentations, he took a little time to see the sights of Chicago with his wife and four children.

Publication: Craig Morrell, DVM, PhD, of the Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute, led the study, “Neonatal Platelets Induce Monocytes to a Myeloid-Derived Suppressor Cell Phenotype,” published in Blood.

Publication: Lisa Beck, MD, of Allergy, Immunology & Rheumatology (jointly), led the study, “Long-Term Dupilumab Treatment Is Not Associated with an Increased Overall Risk of Infections in Adults with Moderate-to-Severe Atopic Dermatitis: Results from an Open-Label 5-Year Extension Study,” published in Advances in Therapy.

Publication: Clive Zent, MD, of Hematology & Oncology, was the corresponding author of “Updated Consensus Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Patients with Hairy Cell Leukemia (HCL) and HCL-variant," published in Blood.

Publication: Charlotte Blumrosen, MD, Medicine-Pediatrics resident, led the study “The Impact of Social Vulnerability and Race on Colorectal Cancer Screening,” published in Population Health Management.

Publication: Lefan He, MD, Cardiovascular Disease Fellow, led the study “Evaluating Attitudes and Barriers to Use of Patient‐Reported Outcome Measures in Cardiovascular Practice,” published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.

Publication: George Porter, MD, PhD, of the Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute, led the study “Inhibition of Cyclophilin D Rescues Cardiac Function and Bioenergetic Defects Caused by Neonatal Hypoxia,” published in JACC: Basic to Translational Science.
