At last week’s URMC Federal Policy Impacts: Health System webinar, URMC CEO David Linehan, MD, shared an anecdote that resonated with me. In November, Tait Shanafelt, MD, an international thought leader in physician wellbeing, visited URMC and was struck by how happy and helpful our employees are. We don't just give directions; we walk visitors to their destination.
That made me think of the myriad ways I see each of you going above and beyond for patients and one another every day through acts big and small. On the tail of Thanksgiving, I want to express how grateful and proud I am of this team and our culture of respect, appreciation, and kindness.
But I understand that what's on the surface doesn't tell the whole story. We’ve been buffeted by blow after blow from external stressors beyond our control. Just as we regained our footing after the pandemic, we’ve had to prepare to weather the coming fiscal headwinds.
As University and Medical Center leaders analyze the recent Employee Engagement Survey results to learn how we can improve system-wide wellbeing, I am committed to supporting any necessary changes that will make your work life better. In the meantime, if you are struggling, please take advantage of the resources offered by the DOM Wellness team and the URMC Office of Wellbeing.
Be well,
Ruth O'Regan, MD
