National Honors for Wilmot-RSD Collaboration
DOM Chair Ruth O’Regan, MD, and Wyatte Hall, PhD, received a National Champion Award from the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf last week. The pair was honored for leading and expanding the Wilmot Future Deaf Scientists Program, which introduces deaf and hard-of-hearing high school students to the world of science and medicine. Hall (right) received the award on behalf of the entire team alongside Rochester School for the Deaf Superintendent Anthony McLetchie (left), who nominated them. Congratulations to all!

Researcher Honored as Emerging Leader
Laura Stamm, PhD, of General Medicine, received the 2025 Susan B. Anthony Center Emerging Leader Award. Her research focuses on understanding the impact of social and political forces on the provision of health care to marginalized communities.

Nominated by a grateful patient in observance of World Rare Diseases Day, the Rochester City Council honored the URMC Comprehensive Sarcoidosis Clinic, a WASOG Center of Excellence, for its expertise and commitment to advancing care. Congratulations to the entire team for improving patients' quality of life and saving lives.

Publication: Susanne Miedlich, MD, and J. Steven Lamberti, MD, of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, authored a review article for the “Year in Diabetes and Obesity” collection of the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences. They also wrote: “Connecting the Dots: Understanding and addressing the metabolic impact of antipsychotic and antidepressant medications” for the journal.

Publication: Internal Medicine residents Aneliya San, MDNina Rizk, MD, and Michael Vornovitsky, MD, of Cardiology, published “Refractory ascites possibly contributed by absent pericardium” in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology Case Reports.

Publication: Alissa Huston, MD, of Hematology/Oncology, was an author of “Integrating botanicals into oncology care: consideration of FDA regulation of botanical products and botanical clinical trial” in Clinical Cancer Research. She also presented “Group Acupuncture as a Model for Symptom Management for Oncology Patients” at the International Congress on Integrative Medicine and Health.

Publication: Laura M. Robinson, MPH, and Kathi Heffner, PhD, of Geriatrics and Aging, were co-authors of “Harmonizing Cognitive and Psychosocial Needs in Cognitive Training: Lessons Learned from Piano Training in Persons Living with Mild Cognitive Impairment,” published in Clinical Gerontology.

Publication: Brian McGarry, PhD, of Geriatrics and Aging, was an author of “Trends in hospital discharge outcomes among high-risk Medicare beneficiaries before and during the COVID-19 pandemic,” published in Health Affairs Scholar.

Publication: Valentina Kutyifa, MD, PhD, of Cardiology, was an author of “Clinical phenotypes and outcomes associated with improved left ventricular ejection fraction after biventricular pacing,” published in the Journal of Interventional Cardiology Electrophysiology.

Publication: Fellow Eric Merrell, MD, and Steve Georas, MD, of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, co-authored “Is tissue the issue when it comes to severe asthma?” in Chest.
