He’s Canadian, so naturally Craig Morrell, DVM, PhD, plays a little hockey. Over the years, he roped in Ed Hall and Allen Pardee, former med students from way back, and Erik Abell who worked in the Dean’s office, for weekend-warrior action on the ice. The Rochester Cold Cuts, as they call themselves, received a coveted invitation to the annual hockey tournament (and a bit of rural Canadian culture) in Morrell’s hometown of Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron. It’s an eight-hour drive both ways, but worth it. “We all have a blast and forget our busy lives for a weekend.”

If you’ve got some time, and buy him a beer, Morrell might share the long story behind the team name.
