Shivangi Kothari, MD, and Mary Vetter, NP, received prestigious awards and colleagues were honored for impressive presentations at the American College of Gastroenterology meeting. “It was a truly outstanding conference for the URMC GI team,” said Chief Mark Levstik, MD.

Awards: Ilana Abeles, MD, PhD, of Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology, received a Clinical Trial Investigator Award from the Lupus Clinical Investigators Network (LuCIN). Abeles is paired with mentor Jennifer Anolik, MD, PhD, chief of AIR, to advance studies and innovations to improve treatment outcomes for the lupus community.

Publication: Valentina Kutyifa, MD, PhD, of Cardiology, was lead author of “Temporal changes in device-derived daily activity related to ventricular arrhythmias from the CERTITUDE registry” published in Heart Rhythm.

Publication: R James White, MD, PhD, of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, was lead author of “Treatment with oral or inhaled treprostinil in patients with pulmonary aterial hypertension and cardiovascular comorbidities” published in Chest.

Understanding the Link Between HIV and Brain Health

Aab Cardiovascular Research Institute and Neurology researchers are exploring connections between HIV and the brain to understand stroke and other cerebrovascular health risks. Jinjiang Pang, MD, PhD, is studying the Delta-like 4 protein (DII4) to determine its role in the deterioration of the microscopic network of blood vessels that serve the brain.

Call for Applications: Geriatrics Faculty Scholars Program

The University of Rochester Aging Institute is accepting applications for the 2025 Geriatric Faculty Scholars Program. It is open to junior and mid-career academic faculty from the School of Nursing and School of Medicine & Dentistry interested in aging who want to spearhead program development through geriatric education within their school, program, division, and/or department,

The program will enhance participants’ teaching and leadership skills and facilitate their career development as academic leaders with a clinical, educational, and/or research niche in geriatrics and gerontology that advances the paradigm of the Age-Friendly Health Systems. Health system with AFHS designation incorporate “4Ms” of care to address for older adults: what matters, medication, mentation, and mobility.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. January 6.

 

CTSI Awards Support Ways to Break Down Translational Research Barriers

Apply now for Novel Biostatistical, Epidemiologic, and Machine Learning Methods Awards. These UR CTSI awards support the development of novel biostatistical, epidemiologic, and machine learning methods in translational science designed to address fundamental challenges and barriers that are common to translational research and health equity across diseases and health conditions.

A maximum of $25,000 will be awarded for a one-year period. Letters of intent are due on January 6, 2025, at 5 p.m.

When Taylor Swift performs, the DOM shows up! With just a handful of hours’ notice, Angela Branche, MD, of Infectious Disease, and Cheryl Rozario, DO, MPH, of Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology, secured their tickets to the blockbuster Eras tour. It was a great adventure, that they nearly missed, because Angela forgot her passport.
