Letter From the Chair

Ruth O'Regan

While we're in the thick of September, two things are on my mind: faculty and football.

I'm pleased to introduce over 40 new faculty members to the Department of Medicine. With such a diverse and talented group, I look forward to seeing the contributions they'll each make to our department. You'll learn their names and divisions in this edition of the newsletter: reach out and say hello!

Of course, the return of football makes us want to shout! Whether you're cheering for the Buffalo Bills or pulling for your alma mater, it's always a fun time of year. I'd love to see your team spirit—send us photos of your game day celebrations or team colors.

September is also Women in Medicine Month. This is a time to honor the extraordinary women who have paved the way and the many more who continue to lead and innovate in medicine today. The DOM is proud to count over 250 women on our faculty, with strong representation in our leadership. Your work continues to inspire, and I look forward to celebrating your achievements throughout the month.

One last call for you to join us during Wilmot Warrior Weekend on September 21 and 22! There's still time today (Friday) to register for our team, the UR DOMinators. Fundraising will stay open through October 31. If you can’t join, any donation would be much appreciated as we try to be the top fundraiser and beat the surgeons! If you donate, you must donate to an individual as you cannot donate to the team. Thanks, and look forward to seeing everyone.

Go Bills!

Be well,
Ruth O'Regan, MD

EDRA Program Helps Research Teams Enroll Study Participants

The Emergency Department Research Associate Program (EDRA) helps study teams from many departments screen and consent patients. A team of over 40 undergraduates trained in the informed consent process will explain and complete screening and enrollment forms with patients in the Emergency Department. Using the EDRA Program can increase study enrollment compared to hiring a research coordinator. Fill out the Interest Form here.

Wedding bells are ringing! Congratulations to newlyweds Sara Gianfagna, DO, MSMEd, from General Medicine, and Jordan Guerrein who were married in August. They had their first date at Good Luck, which turned out lucky for them. They were married at St. Louis Church and celebrated at the beautiful Forbes Theater in Sara's hometown of Buffalo. The wedding party included former co-residents, now faculty members: Prishanya Pillai, MD, Muj Soniwala, DO, and Jenny Shcreiber, MD. Sara says it was "the best wedding I've ever been to!"
